The MFS philosophy is a functional treatment  that allows patients to be treated from an early age when the facial skull is formed. It takes into consideration the causes of malocclusion and skeletal types of growth, and does not focus on treating only symptoms after a period of growth and development.  During the period of growth, the therapy is mainly based on the recognition of functional dysfunctions, preventing these dysfunctions and stimulating the harmonious growth of the facial cranial components with the help of stimulators created for this purpose. This causal approach is aimed at leading the child through the growth and development phase, eliminating the need for extractive treatment, creating the growth of harmonious faces.

It is the answer for physicians seeking to understand the power of the muscle system and their coordination with the CNS and cranial nerves. Let us remember that the phenotype - the obtained morphology depends on the expression of genes (the disclosure of the genetic information depending on favorable environmental conditions, i.e. fluctuation variability) and is the result of functional action on the disclosure of genes. Which means that not every child whose parent has a Class II defect will inherit II Class from the parent. In addition, bone growth is not programmed in the bone and periosteum itself, but depends on the action of muscles, soft tissues surrounding e.g. the tonsillary tonsil, which largely causes hypertrophy to breathe through the mouth, resulting in malloclusions, including II class. Hence the question of whether class II malocclusion is a genetically recorded defect inscribed in the genetic design of the craniofacial skeleton growth, where the jaw does not have independent growth centers, or is the result of poor activity due to mouth breathing caused by an overgrown tonsillary tonsil, whose structure is genetically inherited? This indicates that it is a genetic condition of the tonsillary structure that does not guarantee proper nasopharyngeal flow and respiration during adverse environmental factors has an impact on facial morphology. The same applies to tongue activity. Is it in the situation of a shortened sublingual frenulum that does not allow the correct movement of the tongue, whose structure is also genetically inherited. The disclosure of genes will be the result of a genetic information in a bone that does not have an independent growth center within the bones of the maxilla or mandible, or will be the result of functional movements and compensations developed between the tongue, lips and cheeks causing malocclusion: open bite, cross bite, second class malloclusion.
The functional approach to treatment is aimed at eliminating the need for extractive treatment, creating a harmonious face growth. Muscle strengthening or relaxing through forced exercise using stimulators that stimulate the appropriate muscle points. Thanks to the exercises, we obtain the transformation of muscle fibers between types I and II to obtain a balance ensuring proper tonus and muscle function.
Active treatment phase - the use of MFS brackets.
In the phase of treatment with active fixed braces, MFS philosophy offers a system of brackets with differentiated prescription from 0 to 25 degrees for the upper incisor, and from -5 to + 5 for the lower incisor, for canines from -10 to +5, lateral prescriptions for brachy, dolicho and mesocephalic patients, as well as orthodontic wires (including anti-spee + and ++ in round and retangular wires with different cross-sections). Precise inclination adjustment of the incisors and the position of the remaining teeth is possible thanks to individual calculations for a given case made on the cephalo-x ray of the skull. The creator of MFS-philosophy is Professor Jose Duran von Arx, a longtime head at the University of Barcelona with the chair on Barcelona University, head of the Orthodontic World Institute in Barcelona, author of four orthodontics books, more than 300 articles and 30 chapters in other authors orthodontics books.

Individualisation of Torque according to MFS philosphy, whose creator is prof. Jose Duran von Arx, concerns the active phase of orthodontic treatment based on the selection of appropriate individual prescription of orthodontic brackets for each patient. Individual selection of the upper incisor in the range from 0 to 25 degrees based on the diagnosis of individual differences in the shape of the teeth and inclination of the upper incisor in accordance with the patient's facial angle, taken from the cephalo x-ray of the skull.
Individualisation of the torq minimizes treatment time during treatment with fixed braces. Thanks to the knowledge of the expression of the torque at a given cross-section of the working wire and prescription of MFS brackets, we can calculate the desired tooth movement before treatment. The final inclination of the incisors will depend on the expression of the torque resulting from the bracket prescription and the thickness of the final wire.
